PushPull #5: You're Not Alone

PushPull #5 has been confirmed to take place at Bank Street Arts on Thursday 29th March, starting at 730pm. Following on from last month's PushPull #4 at S1 Artspace- our first to feature a guest speaker, the inspiring Theo Simpson- we're delighted to announce that Andy Brown will be coming along to talk about his work on You're Not Alone, a group project initiated by Cat Powell that documents life at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

During autumn 2011 Andy was given unlimited access to the Children's Hospital, with the aim of sharing the everyday experiences of patients, parents and staff. As well as being a powerful and moving project, You're Not Alone was enormously complex and took a huge amount of organisation, so this will be a great opportunity to get an insight into Andy's work and how a large-scale photography project comes together.

We'll also, of course, be screening a selection of slideshows that have caught our eye lately, and serving up as much tea as you can handle. Biscuits may also be included...

If you want to have a look at the You're Not Alone exhibition, which also features photographs by Shaun Bloodworth and Richard Hanson, it's in the Children's Hospital's Long Gallery until 29th June. Viewings are by appointment, which you can organise by contacting Cat at Catherine.Powell@sch.nhs.uk.

Leap year PushPull at S1 Artspace

February's PushPull is taking place at S1 Artspace on the 29th. We've got some excellent work lined up and will be getting underway at 730pm. If you've not been before and fancy coming along you're more than welcome. Feel free to email us at pushpullphoto[at]gmail.com if you've got any questions, or say hello to us on Twitter.

Over the coming months we'll be bringing lots of guest speakers to PushPull to present and discuss their work- we'll have more details soon. If you're a photographer and you're interested in showing your work at PushPull here's how you can submit.

Last month's PushPull at Bank Street Arts explored the connections between urban and rural lifestyles and included work by Jim Mortram, Gemma Thorpe, and Anastasia Taylor-Lind. You can view Jim and Gemma's slideshows here. Our friend Nynke Wierda very kindly photographed the night- here's a selection of her pictures:

Last night...

Many thanks to everyone who came along to PushPull #3 at Bank Street Arts last night. The slideshows we screened were based around a rural/ nature theme and included work from Jim Mortram's Market Town series, Gemma Thorpe's Sheffield-based project Abundance, and Anastasia Taylor-Lind's The Cidermen.

PushPull will be at S1 Artspace in February; we'll have the specific date up in the next few days. If you'd like some of your own work to be considered for inclusion at a future PushPull event, here's where you can find out more.

To keep in touch, as well as this blog, you can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook. You can join our email list by contacting us at pushpullphoto@gmail.com.

See you next time.

Tomorrow night at Bank Street Arts

PushPull returns from the Christmas break on Wednesday 18th, and this time we're at Bank Street Arts. Unlike the last PushPull that was at Bank Street, this time we're going to be in the atrium- just next to the main gallery. We'll be kicking off at 730pm, so if you want one of the very comfy sofas do make sure to arrive in good time!!

This month we'll be screening work with a rural/ nature theme, including photographs from Jim Mortram's ongoing Market Town series that Duckrabbit described as 'one of the great British photo projects of our times'. Not to be missed!!

Don't forget, we're always on the lookout for work to screen, so if you've got a slideshow you think we'd be interested in have a look at our submissions guidelines and feel free to get in touch.
